US Rejects UN Migration Forum, Announces Boycott Over Policy Dispute

(MENAFN) The US State Department has announced that it will boycott the International Migration Review Forum and will not support its upcoming “progress” declaration, according to an official statement released on Monday.

The statement sharply criticized the United Nations’ approach to migration policy, accusing UN-related efforts of contributing to what it described as harmful immigration trends affecting the United States and other Western countries.

It said the US has long opposed what it called UN support for “replacement immigration” policies and argued that recent migration flows have had damaging effects on American communities.

“In recent years, Americans witnessed first-hand how mass immigration laid waste to our communities: crime and chaos at the border, states of emergency in major cities, and billions of taxpayer dollars funneled towards hotels, plane tickets, cell phones and cash cards for migrants,” the statement said.

It further claimed that UN agencies and partners have played a role in enabling large-scale migration flows and criticized the distribution of public resources to migrants arriving in the country.

“Much of this was driven by UN agencies and their partners, which did not just facilitate the invasion of our country, but proceeded to redistribute our own people’s wealth and resources to millions of foreigners from the worst corners of the world,” it added.

The statement also argued that migration burdens disproportionately affect working Americans competing for jobs, housing, and public services, while suggesting that international institutions have not adequately addressed those concerns.

“Our goal is not to ‘manage’ migration, but to foster remigration,” the department said.

The decision reflects a broader shift in Washington’s stance toward multilateral migration frameworks and signals increased tension between the US and UN institutions over global migration governance.
