Trump Hints at Potential Gaza Ceasefire
(MENAFN) US Leader Donald Trump stated on Sunday that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian faction Hamas could be finalized within the coming week.
Speaking in Morristown, New Jersey, Trump expressed optimism about progress on negotiations related to the release of hostages.
"I think there's a good chance we have a deal with Hamas during the week pertaining to quite a few of the hostages…We've gotten a lot of the hostages out, but pertaining to the remaining hostages, quite a few of them will be coming out. We think we'll have that done this week," Trump told journalists.
These comments came shortly before his scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday.
When asked about the nature of his message for Netanyahu, Trump responded, "We're working on a lot of things with Israel, and one of the things is probably a permanent deal with Iran."
Netanyahu departed from Tel Aviv on Sunday en route to Washington, DC, where he is set to engage in discussions with Trump.
The agenda is expected to cover several pressing regional matters, such as a potential truce in Gaza and a prisoner exchange arrangement.
This marks Netanyahu's third visit to the United States in the past six months.
During his trip, he is also anticipated to hold talks with high-ranking members of the US administration as well as prominent lawmakers from both major political parties.
