6.5 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Indonesia’s Abepura
The quake struck approximately 120 miles from Abepura, located in Papua province, at around 0548 GMT, with the epicenter lying at a depth of 21 miles, according to USGS data.
However, Indonesia’s geophysics agency, BMKG, assessed the earthquake’s magnitude slightly higher at 6.8.
Despite the significant tremor felt across the region, no immediate reports of damage or casualties have emerged from Abepura, a city with a population exceeding 60,000 residents. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
