Powerful Earthquake Hits Indonesian City
The seismic event occurred approximately 120 miles away from Abepura, within Papua province, at around 05:48 GMT.
The quake’s focal depth was recorded at 21 miles beneath the surface.
However, the Indonesian geophysics agency, BMKG, reported a slightly higher magnitude, stating the quake measured 6.8 on the Richter scale.
As of now, there have been no immediate accounts of destruction or injuries in Abepura, a city inhabited by more than 60,000 residents.
