US Conducts Strikes on Iranian Missile Sites Near Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) The US military announced Tuesday that it carried out attacks on Iranian missile facilities near the strategic Strait of Hormuz using heavy “deep penetrator” munitions, according to reports.

"Hours ago, U.S. forces successfully employed multiple 5,000-pound deep penetrator munitions on hardened Iranian missile sites along Iran’s coastline near the Strait of Hormuz," US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a post on the social media platform X.

“The Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles in these sites posed a risk to international shipping in the strait,” it added.

There was no immediate response from Iranian authorities regarding the strikes, as stated by reports.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global energy corridor, with a significant share of the world’s oil shipments passing through it. Reports note that the waterway has become a focal point for energy concerns after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced restrictions on vessel traffic in response to US-Israeli attacks that began on February 28.
