Ukraine Moves Toward Sanctions Over Export of “Stolen” Grain to Israel

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Kyiv is preparing a sanctions package following reports that a ship carrying what Ukraine describes as “stolen” grain from Russian-occupied territories has arrived in Israel.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy said the planned measures are being developed using information from Ukrainian intelligence services. He stated that the sanctions will target both individuals involved in transporting the grain and companies or entities allegedly attempting to profit from what he called an illegal operation.

He argued that purchasing such goods should carry legal consequences in any lawful system, emphasizing that this includes grain Ukraine claims was taken from areas under Russian control. He also said that a vessel carrying the disputed cargo has reached an Israeli port and is preparing to unload.

Zelenskyy further suggested that Israeli authorities would be aware of the shipments entering their ports and the nature of the cargo being delivered, implying that due diligence should be exercised regarding such imports.

He added that Ukraine intends to coordinate with European partners to ensure that those involved are also included in broader international sanctions lists.

Reaffirming Ukraine’s diplomatic stance, Zelenskyy said the country values cooperation and mutual respect with other states and is working to contribute to regional security, including in the Middle East. He also expressed expectations that Israeli authorities would take Ukraine’s concerns into account and avoid actions that could negatively affect bilateral relations.
