US Stocks Rise as Oil Prices, Bond Yields Fall on Iran Talks Optimism

(MENAFN) United States stock markets closed higher on Wednesday as easing concerns over oil prices and interest rates boosted investor sentiment amid hopes of progress in negotiations involving Iran, according to reports.

Major indexes posted solid gains, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 1.31% (645 points) to 50,009.35. The S&P 500 climbed 1.08% to 7,432.97, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.55% to 26,270.36.

Market volatility also declined, as the VIX index fell 3.43% to 17.44, signaling improved investor confidence.

Sentiment improved after US President Donald Trump said the US was in the “final stages” of talks with Iran, raising expectations that geopolitical tensions could ease and reduce pressure on global energy markets.

Oil prices dropped sharply in response. West Texas Intermediate crude fell 5.66% to $98.26 per barrel, while Brent crude declined 5.63% to $105.02, easing fears that higher energy costs could sustain inflation.

Lower energy prices also contributed to a decline in US Treasury yields. The 10-year yield fell by more than 8 basis points to around 4.57%, while the 30-year yield also eased after recent gains that had pushed borrowing costs higher.

Minutes from the Federal Reserve’s latest policy meeting indicated continued concern among officials about inflation risks tied to energy prices, geopolitical instability, and trade-related pressures, according to reports.
